With the electric scooter travel season in full swing, THOR AVAS has announced an exciting pilot collaboration with SunRent. Embracing a commitment to safety and visibility, the THOR and SunRent teams have joined forces to install SunRent’s Ninebot Max PRO 2.2 scooter with THOR AVAS’ (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems) device. Simultaneously, THOR’s sound designers have crafted custom sound samples tailored to the SunRent brand, ensuring they align with the brand’s identity and meet AVAS system regulations worldwide.

The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems for electric scooters features a 1-inch speaker paired with an electronic module that synchronizes with the scooter’s throttle signals, replicating the full spectrum of engine operations. This innovative sound technology aims to enhance rider safety by providing pedestrians with advanced warning—approximately 5 seconds—allowing them to react and maneuver accordingly. Additionally, this initiative presents an opportunity for the SunRent brand to be recognized not only by its visual identity but also by its distinctive sound.

A seamless, subdued melody dynamically adjusts based on speed control, enabling pedestrians and other road users to gauge the scooter’s proximity and intentions—whether accelerating or decelerating to a stop. Furthermore, the device incorporates additional activation scenarios to notify the scooter’s owner of lease commencement or conclusion. Following rigorous testing, including evaluations by SunRent colleagues, the finalized device is poised for production, with plans to deploy a batch for sharing clients’ use in the near future.
